Myofascial Release Myofascial release refers to the manual massage technique for stretching the fascia and releasing bonds between fascia, integument, and muscles with the goal of eliminating pain, increasing range of motion and equilibrioception. Myofascial release usually involves applying shear compression or tension in various directions, or by skin rolling.

What is Myofascial Release? Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on massage therapy technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Stress, trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.). Myofascial release aims to access these areas of blockage and tension to release them, thereby freeing up the muscle and allowing it to move more easily and effectively.

Each Myofascial Release Treatment session is performed directly on skin without oils, creams or machinery. This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia. Sometimes myofascial release can be intense, especially for patients that have had a holding pattern (fascial binding) for a long period on time. Breathing in conjunction with the treatment is advised for maximum comfort and benefit. After the session, some clients experience slight stiffness and soreness, which will dissipate over the next day or two, leaving behind a sense of well-being. Regular myofascial release can improve posture, ease areas of muscle soreness, and improve flexibility.
